Portland Art Museum Number 12 from the series "Gendai butai geika", Leading Figures of the Modern Stage in their famous roles: "Danshichi Nidai-me Onoe Shoroku jo".

One of the most dramatic moments in the play Natsumatsuri Naniwa Kagami (夏祭浪花鑑) is when Danshichi kills his good-for-nothing father-in-law who has fallen in the mud. Danshichi doesn't slay him with a sword held in front of him, but one he holds behind his back. That is the way he kills Giheiji. He doesn't even look at him when he does it. A most astounding tour de force of the kabuki theater.
