Van Gogh Museum - center panel only This scene prominently displays the sasarindō motif which was the eventual crest of the Genji/Minamoto clan. Of course, it was not in use at the time of the original Tale of Genji, but its anachronistic adoption by 19th century ukiyo artists must have felt quite natural. Here it appears as a repeated pattern on the surface of the partition that Mitsuuji is leaning on and again on his purple robe.
