The POLA Culture Research Institute Note: The title of this print, written in the toshidama cartouche in the upper right corner, is written as 當世 in an older style, while today if you are searching for information about this series, is written with the more modern 当世.

Horst Graebner at Kunisada.de gives a date of 1820 for this series.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston notes that there are at least two prints from this series that give different series titles: the one shown here from the Lyon Collection is Tōsei usugeshō - 當世 薄化粧, while one of the prints in Boston gives Jisei usugeshō as the title. The terms jisei and tōsei are synonymous terms here for 'the present times.' We have added a jpeg of one of the prints in Boston with the other series title.
