Elsewhere at this site we have mentioned Sekino's indebtedness to late 19th to early 20th century European art, especially to that of Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947). While we have no knowledge of Sekino's having ever seen the preparatory sketches that Bonnard made of infants, even crying babies, we cannot get over the similarities of some of the Frenchman's drawings with the unusual treatment of this child's head. For that reason, we have added three jpegs from the musée d'Orsay to this page for comparison.
