Lyon Collection - a Hokushū triptych which includes this same character
Hankyu Culture Foundation Mino no Shōkurō is one of three major protagonists in an early 18th century play which is very complex and confusing in its plot line. Each of these three main characters is looking for a lost family heirloom. Shōkurō's is a famous kettle called Cicada.

There is another piece in the Lyon Collection, a triptych, by Hokushū (#350), which represents Mino no Shokurō, but in that case he is referenced under a different name.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Library dates this print at 1820. Others date it to 1/1823 for a production of Keisei Ōmonguchi at the Kado Theater in Osaka.
