The curatorial files in the Museum für angewandte Kunst, Vienna, in translation, say: "Series of triptychs showing actors in everyday life in connection with various festivities. Actors and fans collecting young pine seedlings. The actor Sawamura Gen'nosuke 澤村源之助/ Sōjūrō III. 三代目宗十郎 ? and two female fans; one of them carries an offering desk (sanbō 三方 or shimadai 島台) on which a pine branch lies."

The left-hand panel: Nakamura Kōshirō (中村幸四郎) on the right watching a young woman trying to pull uproot a young pine tree. On the left is the onnagata Segawa Kikunojō IV. (四代目瀬川菊之丞).
