Biography:

This actor held this name from 1798 to 1/1835 when he died in Osaka. However, his name does not appear in any of the hyōbanki or handbooks rating actors from 1833 on.

Kabuki21 notes: ""Asao Kunigorō III was a popular 19th century Kamigata actor, who excelled in jitsuaku, katakiyaku and fukeoyama roles. He was short-sighted (chikame in Japanese) and was therefore nicknamed Chikakuni (the kuni comes from Kunigorō)."
