Biography:
This actor held this name from May 1952 until his death in October 1969. Sadanji III was the second actor to use this name. There had been a previous line of three Ichikawa Sadanji actors previously starting in 1742 and ending sometime in the 19th century.
However, this Sadanji III's career started in 1902 when he received the name of Ichikawa Otora IV. His father was Ichikawa Monnosuke VI. His son, Ichikawa Sadanji IV (born Nov. 12, 1940). His grandson, Ichikawa Omezō VI (born Oct. 9, 1967). His great-grandson, Ichikawa Otora VII (born Dec. 27, 1995).
****
This Ichikawa Sadanji III is not to be confused with an earlier actor who had the same name. That actor lived in the 19th century and was an adopted son of Ichikawa Kodanji IV (1812-66).
