Biography:

This actor held this name from 11/1812 to 10/1813 and again from 11/1821 to the end of 1822 and finally from 1/1824 to the spring of 1825. His adopted son was Nakamura Daikichi III (1815-57).

Sankō trained with Nakamura Utaemon III (1778-1838) and Ichikawa Jinnosuke (市川仁之助 - dates unknown).

His identifying crest or mon is the yattsu yaguruma (八ツ矢車) worn by members of the Nakamura Tomijūrō. It is a design of a ray of the fletches of arrows radiating outward from a central hub. Of course, it does not always appear on the robes of the actor as in the example Hokuchō print in the Lyon Collection.
