Biography:

"Contrary to most of the Sosaku Hanga artists who valued print-making as a supreme form of expression, Kiyoshi Saito has frequently described himself as a frustrated oil painter whose true joy in making prints is in creating the design. Nevertheless, Saito is among the most successful and prolific of the Sosaku Hanga artists. His subject matter ranges from nostalgic images of his childhood home in Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture, to traditional Japanese subjects, to scenes from his travels to Europe and the United States."
