This print is from a series of more than 40 images. The text is by Kanagaki Robun (1829-94). The slightly trimmed name, 仮名垣魯文, is seen along the left side of this print.


The man's tattoo shows an eagle among pine trees. Over his left shoulder is what appears to be tenugui or hand towel - or perhaps it is the upper part of his robe - decorated with a black carp leaping up the roiling waters of a waterfall.
