Physical description:

Hōryūji is considered the world's oldest wooden structure. It was built in the 7th century. It is considered an Important Cultural Propery and was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites in 1993.

Tsuchiya Koitsu (土屋光逸: 1870-1949) created at least two versions of this temple pagoda in the snow. One a standard sized print from 1938 and the other the small postcard sized one, date unknown. He also produced images of the same locale without snow.

This print is said to have been published by Shōbidō (尚美堂) in the 1930s. It is listed in the Koitsu catalogue as TK-SB-10.

There is a copy of the larger version in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, but no illustration.
